ALG advises that all that all truck traffic should avoid the downtown Chicago area from Friday May 18th thru Tuesday May 22end.

ALG is taking all steps necessary to ensure transportation routes are changed to avoid any possible delays do to the summit. 

Mail delivery likely will be disrupted during NATO weekend in several Chicago neighborhoods where summit events and meetings are scheduled to take place.

Delivery of mail could be affected from Wednesday to May 21 in the South Loop, Streeterville, Near North Side, Near West Side and parts of University Village, the United States Postal Service said Friday in a statement. Potentially affected ZIP codes include 60601-60605, 60606, 60607, 60610, 60611, 60616, 60654 and 60661.

The "peak impact period" of mail delivery begins next Friday and continues through May 22, according to USPS, noting it plans to continue operations "to the fullest extent possible."

"The safety and security of our employees, our customers and the mail is our top priority at all times, and especially while NATO is in town," said Chicago District Manager/Postmaster Karen Schenck in a statement.

In addition, some collection boxes in the downtown area, around McCormick Place and along designated march routes will be removed from Sunday to May 23 "as a security precaution."

All post offices and branches will remain open, including the Main Post Office.

"We recognize that street congestion will be increased during the period of the summit, and this may expand some travel times for transportation and delivery operations," said Schenck. "We thank our customers in advance for their patience and understanding."
